The Champions League league phase, part of the UEFA competition's new format, is nearing the end and with it teams are being bounced from the competition. The league phase mirrors that of a league table across prominent leagues in Europe.

Portugal’s Benfica entertain Spain’s Barcelona in the league stage of the UEFA Champions League. The match at the Stadium of Light in Lisbon, Portugal, kicks off at 8pm (20:00 GMT). Benfica are second in their domestic league, Primeira Liga, three points behind cross-city rivals Sporting Lisbon, but are 15th in the 36-team league stage in Europe.

It will be an unprecedented Champions League's Matchday 8 as all the teams will be playing at the same time on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Pep Guardiola's Manchester City need to win in their last tie of the league phase to avoid the elimination from the tournament,
