On this day in Chicago history, an infamous event unfolded on North Side that's reverberated for almost a century and has become an inextricable part of the city's identity to this day.

On Feb. 14, 1929, the “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” took place in a Chicago garage as seven rivals of Al Capone’s gang were gunned down.

1951: “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre II.” Sugar Ray Robinson won the middleweight championship from “Raging Bull” Jake LaMotta on a 13th-round TKO at Chicago Stadium. LaMotta, who had never been knocked down, preserved that record.
