Police and media reports say that Finnish authorities have detained a Russia-linked ship as they investigate whether it damaged a Baltic Sea power cable and several data cables.

Finland is investigating the possible Christmas Day “sabotage” of an undersea power cable linking the country with Estonia under the Baltic Sea.

Separately, Finnish police continue to investigate damage caused last year to the Balticconnector gas pipeline linking Finland and Estonia, as well as several telecoms cables, and have said this was likely caused by a ship dragging its anchor.

The Estlink-2 power went down just after noon on Wednesday. There has been concern about undersea cables in the wake of damage to two data cables in November and Nord Stream gas pipeline.

Estlink 2 power interconnector remained offline following the outage that began at midday local time on Christmas Day.
