The North Carolina Tar Heels ' football program made one of the biggest surprise hires of the offseason after signing Bill Belichick to a five-year contract with an annual salary of $10 million. However, most of the guarantees are within the first three years of the deal.

As North Carolina coach Bill Belichick continues to build out his staff in Chapel Hill, he's keeping his promise of having a "strong NFL presence." According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Belichick and the Tar Heels are working towards finalizing a deal with longtime NFL special teams coach Mike Priefer.

Whispers continue to suggest Belichick would welcome a return to the NFL and the opportunity to break Don Shula's league record for career victories earned by a head coach (regular season and postseason combined).
