TEL AVIV — Five soldiers have been indicted by Israel’s Military Prosecution for causing “severe” injury to a Palestinian prisoner in a notorious Israeli jail, including “stabbing the detainee’s bottom” with a sharp object, which had penetrated near his rectum.

Israel has charged five soldiers with beating a Palestinian prisoner so badly that he needed to have a bag fitted to remove bodily waste. In an indictment revealed on Wednesday, the reservists are accused of using a Taser gun on the man, kicking and stamping on him, and stabbing him in the buttock with a sharp object.
