Bird also ranks in the Top 10 in the WNBA's all-time scoring list with 6,803 career points. On Thursday, however, the 44-year-old lost her previous spot on the esteemed list as former WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike rewrote the history books.

University of Connecticut great and five-time Olympic gold medalist Sue Bird will have a statue unveiled in her honor in Seattle. It's the first time in WNBA history that a statue has been dedicated to a former player. Bird was the No. 1 pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft and she's been with the Seattle Storm ever since.

It didn't take long for Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark (who has made her adoration of Bird extremely clear over the years) to respond to this news, as she made an Instagram story post on Wednesday that reposted a graphic by @espnW and simply wrote, "duh @sbird10".
