The term "bolt ons" is deceiving. Technically, you could say building a car from a pile of parts is a "bolt ons" job; you bolt the suspension to the frame, bolt the engine and transmission together.
The unfortunate reality is that race cars seldom enjoy retirement. If they aren't destroyed in a crash and hauled off for scrap, most wind up parted out. It's a hard life, no doubt about it.
