The Lion King II: Simba's Pride remains a fan-favorite of Walt Disney Animation's direct-to-video sequels, making it an ideal story to adapt for any prospective follow-ups to Mufasa: The Lion King.

Outside of its prequel narrative, Mufasa: The Lion King also features a framing device, with Rafiki, Timon, and Pumbaa telling the story of Mufasa's origins to Simba's daughter, Kiara.

Several outlets project “Mufasa: The Lion King” will gross $50 million this weekend, nearly a quarter of the opening weekend gross of its predecessor, “The Lion King” (2019).
