The New York Mets have had a successful offseason by adding Juan Soto and bringing back Sean Manaea. They could lose Pete Alonso after a report that the San Francisco Giants are interested in him.

While we’ve said here the Mets and Pete Alonso need to figure it out, there is said to be a sizable gap in talks at the moment. That doesn’t mean he’s gone, as the Mets have closed big gaps before (see Juan Soto below),

The New York Mets have made an offer to retain their free-agent first baseman, Pete Alonso, according to an online report by a former MLB star.

Pete Alonso and the Mets are predicted to sign a short-term deal. Alonso has a number of teams behind him and he might reunite with the Mets.

Alonso's production would be valuable behind Soto, but contract length could be the sticking point of a new deal.

Even after signing Juan Soto, the Mets can still bring back Pete Alonso. They just need to prove to him that they're serious.

The New York Mets added Juan Soto this offseason and are trying to land Pete Alonso as well. However, if Alonso leaves, the Mets could pivot to a cheaper option in free agency to replace him.
