Michigan State University students are working on a new type of concrete aimed at helping the pothole problem in Michigan.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - No. 1 Michigan State hockey took down rival No. 10 Michigan, 4-1, at Munn Arena in East Lansing Saturday night. Michigan State’s win ensured the rivals split a home-and-home series this weekend after Michigan won 3-2 in overtime Friday. The teams combined for 21 penalties in a chippy, heated rivalry game.

Isaac Howard and David Gucciardi scored two goals apiece as MSU scored four goals in both the second and third periods to roll past Minnesota.

Tre Holloman had 17 points, Coen Carr and Frankie Fidler scored 11 each and No. 12 Michigan State held on to beat No. 19 Illinois 80-78.

The Michigan State Spartans basketball team return to East Lansing to take on Penn State and attempt to extend their nine-game winning streak.

MSU, which is ranked No. 12 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, is coming off a 90-85 victory over Penn State on Jan. 15 in East Lansing. Illinois (13-4, 5-2 Big Ten) is ranked No. 20 in the Coaches Poll and is coming off a 94-69 win over Indiana in its most recent game on Jan. 11.

"We don’t really care where the Spartans are," Michigan basketball coach Dusty May said. "But I think it adds more interest to the game."
