Republicans hold 71 of the 105 seats in the Alabama House of Representatives, and almost all of those lawmakers are hoping voters will send them back to Montgomery for another term. More than 60 have reported raising campaign funds since the fundraising period started for the 2026 election.

The first Black mayor of an Alabama town has won election by a landslide, four years after he ran unopposed but was prevented from serving.

Evelyn Sanders has been involved in elections in Gulf Shores since 1963, about five years after Alabama’s premiere beach city was incorporated. Only 300 people lived in Gulf Shores the first time Sanders took on an election.
