Florida State has made another addition to its 2026 class in the form of a local rising star. On Monday afternoon, four-star running back Amari Clemons announced his commitment to Florida State. This is a big pickup for the Seminoles as Clemons is arguably the most talented prospect across the Panhandle.

Florida State's 2026 recruiting class took a big hit on Sunday as four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel backed off his commitment to the program. Smigiel has been picking up a ton of interest as of late and the Seminoles' transitioning offense under head coach Mike Norvell and offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn played a role in his decision.

Despite a lackluster season on the football field, Florida State ‘s recruiting momentum has remained intact. The Seminoles signed a top-20 class in 2025 — even with a number of high-profile decommitments. And in 2026, they’re off to a fast start — even after four-star quarterback commit Brady Smigiel backed off his pledge on Sunday.

The Seminoles have offered a prospect who is committed to a program that just played for a National Championship.

The ACC opener comes after a four-game nonconference schedule that includes home games against Notre Dame (Aug. 31), Bethune-Cookman (Sept. 6), University of South Florida (Sept. 13) and Florida (Sept. 20). Miami will have a bye week between its games against UF and FSU.

On Aug. 30, 2025, the Alabama Crimson Tide will travel to open the college football season, facing the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee, Florida.

Ionata is the son of former FSU offensive lineman Joey Ionata, who played for the Seminoles from 1984-88. Ionata was a full-time starter during his final two years with the program and was an AP All-American honorable mention in 1988. The younger Ionata also has an older brother, Joseph Ionata, who signed with Alabama in 2023.
