The 5-through-9 batters in the lineup — Jazz Chisholm Jr., Anthony Volpe, Austin Wells, Jasson Dominguez and Oswaldo Cabrera — went a combined 8-for-18 with nine RBIs and six runs scored.

This was likely the result of frustration boiling over for the 34-year-old. In 2.2 innings against the Yankees, Gausman allowed six runs to score while walking five batters. This outing increased his season ERA from a dominant 3.16 to a mediocre 4.50 on the season.

It helped that Toronto right-hander Kevin Gausman imploded in a six-run third, as the Yankees pulled away for an 11-2 victory in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader in The Bronx. The Yankees trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the third, but drew five walks and got a three-run double from Austin Wells.
