Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis approved a package of sweeping immigration bills on Thursday, helping settle a bitter showdown with state Republican legislative leaders.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed into law what he calls the toughest anti-illegal immigration bill in the country. He spent weeks negotiating with state legislators, who at times debated passionately on the floors of the house and senate.

If Florida’s first lady gets involved, it would shake up what is already expected to be a competitive race for governor in 2026.
