Two sanitation workers who were on the picket line in the ongoing District Council 33 union strike were hit by a vehicle in Philadelphia's Port Richmond section.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said Thursday that mediators from the state are involved in the negotiation process between AFSCME District Council 33 and the City of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said District Council 33 refused the city's offer to continue contract negotiations on Thursday as a crippling work stoppage continues.
