The White House has begun offering buyouts worth seven months of salary to all federal employees who opt to leave their jobs by Feb. 6.

President Donald Trump — who is trying to summarily fire 18 inspectors general and an undetermined number of prosecutors who worked on the January 6 investigation, which convicted roughly 1,500 people — is taking a different approach with other federal workers: He’s offering them a “dignified and fair” buyout.

A memo from the Office of Personnel Management, the government's human resources agency, lists four directives that it says Trump is mandating for the federal workforce, including that most workers return to their offices full-time.
