Shaman is a Batman storyline written by Dennis O'Neil and illustrated by Ed Hannigan and John Beatty. It was published from November, 1989 to March, 1990 through the first five issues of the then new comic book series Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight.

Initially, it seemed as though Legends of the Dark Knight would be exclusively focused on stories told during the early years of Batman’s career, around the time of Year One.

Batman: Shaman was the first story featured in the Legends of the Dark Knight series, debuting in the fall of 1989. Shaman is Denny O'Neil's attempt to expand on Batman's origin in Batman: Year One depicting Bruce's decision to explore the cave beneath Wayne Manor.

Batman appears in the midst of a sacrifice, and belittles and shames the fake Shaman in front of his men by using all the props and traps he prepared earlier, and so the cultists stop following the fake shaman, who turns out to be banker Carl Fisk.
